KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL
WORK ON TRANSIT HOUSING TO START NEXT WEEK Councillors would have many important matters for consideration in addition to routine business during the year, said the Mayor (Mr W. H. A. Vickery) at the January meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council. He added that the business would include the establishment of transit housing. Catchment Board schemes and classifications, the war memorial project, sewerage and water supply, and the assumption of duties as the Waimakariri Harbour Board. The (Mr N. E. Clemens) said that all materials for the construction of the transit bousing flats were now on hand, and that the work of erection would commence on Monday. It was decided that the Transit Housing Committee meet at an early date to consider the calling of applications. The report of the works committee stated that the tar-sealing of footpaths had been commenced. Rich street had been completed, and Walker street and Cam road were next on the list. The electrical engineer (Mr C. H. Court) reported that units purchased for tha quarter ended December 31, 1946, totalled 431,400, an increase of 7900 over the Corresponding quarter of the previous year. Catchment Board Rating The classifications made by the Catchment Board for rating purposes were the subject of considerable debate, and it was decided to call a meeting of ratepayers on Thursday of next week, and make all information available. The Town Clerk was instructed to make arrangements for ratepayers to learn their classifications, and to prepare a full report for a special meeting of the council. Reference was made to tne poor water supply at Kairaki during the Christmas period, and the reserves committee was directed to investigate the matter.
