ELLESMERE WAR MEMORIAL
FURTHER PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD As trustees of the memorial erected to honour the memory of the men who fell in the first World War, the Ellesmere County Council recently sought a legal opinion as to whether any alteration or addition could be made to serve as a memorial for the recent war, two public meetings having expressed a desire to have a cross, to be illuminated at night, erected above the memorial. The opinion, received by the council at its monthly meeting, was that no addition could be made without first obtaining the sanction of the Governor-General. Two architects, it was stated, had advised that the proposed cross would not. be in keeping with the design of the memorial. After discussion the council decided to call another public meeting to discuss the matter.
