INCLUSION IN CITY RECOMMENDED

SMALL PORTIONS OF WAIMAIRI Portions of the Waimairi County on Aorangi road and off Wairarapa road, near Ilam road, have been recommended for inclusion in the city of Christchurch by the commission which considered a petition for the inclusion of a larger area. The commission reported that the opponents of amalgamation in the full area included those with larger holdings, whose rates would be increased in the city, and only some of whom could get relief under the Urban Farmlands Act. The portion recommended for inclusion is confined to residential properties and building sections and excludes farmlands. There were 50 signatures to the petition asking that the area bounded by Wirksworth street,. Ham road, and road should be included in the city. There were 61 signatures, to counter-petitions, including 15 of those who claimed to have signed the petition under a misapprehension. The commission said it was apparent that persons were induced to sign the petition on the representation that it was merely aimed at obtaining the advantages of a high-pressure water supply. Members of the commission were Mr Raymond Ferner. S.M., the Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr T. W. Preston), and the District Land Valuer (Mr J. M. G. Johnston).
