GRASSHOPPER PLAGUE IN QUEENSLAND

(Rec. 11 p.m.) BRISBANE, Jan. 15. Besides eating bare of grass the country for 60 miles round Goondiwindi, a grasshopper plague has invaded the town and has caused considerable damage. Grasshoppers have eaten starched clothing hanging on clothes lines, chewed cardboard from the backs of picture frames, and bared lawns. It is the worst grasshopper plague in the history of the district.

No grass remains on properties which were showing green shoots three weeks ago, and graziers will now have to cut scrub or hand-feed stock.
