GASWORKERS NOT RESUMING
PROPOSAL REJECTED BY UNION (Rec, 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 13. It is stated unofficially that the Federal Council of the Gas Employees’ Union has rejected a recommendation by the Australasian Council of Trade Unions that work should be resumed, because pf opposition by the New South Wales and South Australian delegates to any settlement which did not include double time for Sunday shift work. This conference adjourned early this afternoon to make way for another conference later to-day between the Australasian Council’s committee and the strike co-ordinating committee in Melbourne. Victorian and- Tasmanian delegates are convinced that the employers cannot be moved, and favour resumption of work with an assurance of payment of time and a half for Saturday work, other claims to be re-? ferred to the Arbitration Court.
