OIL SEARCH IN NEW GUINEA
ROYAL DUTCH SHELL LETS CONTRACT NEW YORK, January 12. The Royal Dutch Shell group has arranged for a full-scale exploration of the oil possibilities of Dutch New Guinea. A contract has been awarded to an American firm for the construction of two piers and about 62 miles of roads, which will give access to drilling areas in dense jungle country. Advance construction crews are at present assembling at Morotai, which will be used as a base for the transhipment of personnel and supplies, Catalina flying-boats will be em« ployed to co-ordinate widely-scattered parts of the work, in which about 60 Americans and 800 natives will be engaged.
