MORE BUTCHERS CLOSE IN N.S.W.

(Rec. 9 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 13. After exhausting their stocks, the Wollongong butchers to-day joined the butchers of Sydney and Newcastle in closing their shops in protest against price controls. More than 100 shops, operating on meat killed on Friday and supplies from country killing centres, were open in Sydney to-day. The abattoir employees at Homebush decided to ask the Government to take over key shops for the. purpose of getting meat to the public. The demand on poultry, rabbits, cooked foodstuffs, and tinned meat was heavy to-day, but retailers say that the supply is adequate.

SYDNEY, January 13. The first shots in a campaign to oust Communists from executive office in the Miners’ Federation have been fired by the anti-Communist section on the south coast of New South Wales. In two circulars the Communists are attacked for intruding into the administration at the Miners’ federation. One circular its oqtspolmn about the decision of the federation to grant £3OOO from New South Wales to recoup the Queensland miners for their losses during the Communist-inspired Queensland meat strike. The second circular claims that all Communists have to take dictation from their party leaders, and that Mr H. Wells, who recently withdrew his renomination for the presidency of the federation and was later suspended by the Communist Party, was “sold out” bv the party.
