DUCKS ON THE AVON

Sir,—ln reply to “Christians Awake,” I would ask why, because opossums are cruelly destroyed, little ducklings should be cruelly destroyed, too? Two wrongs do not make a right. I am not responsible for the method of opossum trapping, and have had much to say against it in past years. Where one can put in a word for dumb creatures; it seems a duty to do so. I do not know what Mr Parry said, but the opossums should never have been brought in. Is the Acclimatisation Society responsible? Unfortunately the opossums are destroying forests and indirectly bird life. too. We cannot do without either. There are a few Christians awake, but they cannot do much, while others are still sleeping.—Yours, etc.. A. E. RICHARDSON. January 13, 1947.
