CHINA’S CIVIL WAR
Sir,-*“ Yencows” Uncertainty when he says, “Perhaps you are right,” is weak; but his certainty is weaker when he describes as a myth the world-wide evidence of Newspapers that North China is a reformed liberal democratic non-communist State. As the Czechoslovakia in an Asiatic Munich, Yenan is bitter against her American betrayers, naturally. Anti-white atrocities in North China or anti-col-our atrocities in the United States are regrettable facts, all the more deplorable because they occur where modern democracy was born in the east and West. Describing the United States as most democratic is a myth difficult to spread now; when her rulers are considering the expediency of insisting upon free elections there or mob, as heretofore, a la Bilbo. The days of debt-free democracy in Yenan are numbered, because the United States is the most plutocratic State and Chiang Kai-shek the most plutocratic statesman on earth. —Yours, etc., H. J. BUTTLE. Darfleld, January 12, 1947.
