Traffic Inspector’s Prompt Action
The prompt action of a Transport Department inspector resulted in the recovery of a motor-car reported missing from Napier and the arrest of a young man. who was fopnd to be armed with a loaded rifle, at Fernhill. The traffic inspector. Mr C. J. Robinson. saw a car near the Fernhill bridge answering the description of one reported to have been stolen in Napier on Tuesday night. Mr Robinson saw the car driven into a fence, after which a young man got out of the vehicle and dashed off toward the river. Mr Robinson immediately telephoned to the Hastings police and, while he waited on the bridge three constables raced to the scene in a cqr The police party separated and commenced a search of the river banks They found a young man answerinc the description given by Mr Robinson He was standing witn a rifle in his hands He was caught unawares and disarmed. It was discovered that the rifle was cocked and loaded.
