NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT From Our OUm Reporter TIMARU. September 22. Entries totalling 29 from Hamilton, Palmerston North, Christchurch, Oamaru, Dunedin, and Timaru- were received for the New Zealand squash rackets championships, at present being Ji aid by the Timaru Club at Timaru- In addition, entries were. received far the Handicap : competition. The tournament, which is the first to be held for the New Zealand championship since 1939, was begun oh Saturday, and one semi-final and one final will be decided to-mprrow. » In the . handicap competition the fourth round has been reached. ' W. K. Renton, Timaru, the present holder of the title, has qualified for the final, and will meet the winner of the semi-final between J. M. Kerr (Timaru) and A. H. Malcolm (Hamilton). Results:—
Championship Third Round.—W. E, Renton (Timaru) beat A. M. Johns (Palmerston North) by 3 games to 1; N. E. Glass (Oamaru) beat B. E. Souter (Hamilton) by 3 games to 2; J. M. Kerr (Timaru) beat A. D. Long (Palmerston North) by 3 games to 0; A. H. Malcolm (Hamilton) beat M. J. Souter (Timaru) by 3 games to 1. Semi-finals. —Renton beat Glass, 9-4, 9-2, 9-5. Handicap Competition Third Round.—W. A. Lewis (Timaru, beat (M. Gunn (Oamaru) by 3 games to 0; R. O. Hadden (Palmerston North) beat K. F. M. Uttley (Timaru) 3 games to 0; C. Ryan (Timaru) beat S. G. McDougall (Oamaru) by 4 gamer to C. R. Hervey (Timaru) beat N. Gould (Timaru) by 3 games to 0; E. Christinas (Palmerston North) won from A. H. Malcolm (Hamilton) by default; B. E. Souter (Hamilton) beat E, W. D. Unwin (Timaru) by 3 games to 0; F. G. Lewis (Timaru) beat A. L. Taylor (Oamaru) by 3 games tO Fourth Round.—Ryan beat Hervey by 3 games to 0.
