INDIAN TROOPS IN PERSIA
MOSLEMS DEMAND WITHDRAWAL (Rec. 730 p.m.) NEW DELHI, Sept. 15. The All-India Shia Conference (which is one of the chief Moslem sects) carried a resolution protesting against the presence of Indian troops in Persia, and demanding their withdrawal. It was said that their presence constitutes a threat to the liberty and security of 15,000,000 Shias in Persia. [Troops from India were sent to Basra, near the Persian border, early in August The official reason was: •for the protection, should the circumstances demand it, of Indian, British, and Arab lives in South Persia.”!
