INFLUENZA DEATHS IN BRITAIN

TYPE DIFFERENT FROM THAT OF 1918-19 (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 12. Influenza resulted in 297 deaths in Britain in the week ended February 2, compared with 273 in the previous week. It is emphasised that there is nothing to suggest a repetition of the 1918-19 pandemic. The present wave is reported to be due to virus B, which caused an outbreak in 1943.- Penicillin and sulphonomide drugs, although havifig no effect on the influenza virus, are being used to combat the complication of pneumonia.
