U.S. DENUNCIATION OF ARGENTINA

Totalitarian Aims Of Government

(Rec. 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 12. The United States State Department has published a 40,000word Blue Book denouncing successive Argentine governments for aiding the Axis. The Blue Book says the evidence justifies the following conclusions:—

Individuals and groups controlling the Argentine Government aim to establish a totalitarian state, and this has already been partly accomplished. By brutal force and terrorist methods the military regime has made a mockery of its pledge to the United Nations to reaffirm its faith ,in human rights. Ever since the Allies invaded Europe, Argentina has been adopting a defensive strategy of camouflage with repeated avowals of pro-demo-cratic intentions.

A recent regime in Argentina sought to undermine the inter-American system.

The Blue Book notes that more than half the Argentine Budget last year was assigned for building up armed forces. The Germans in Argentina have now constructed a complete duplicate of the economic structure for war which they had in Germany. Germans in Argentina possess the industrial, commercial, and agricultural organisation needed for the reconstitution of Germany for aggressive power during the period that their homeland is occupied. The Germans also control Argentine industries essential to warfare, in which experiments for future weapons may be conducted and prototypes developed. The Blue Book, which is largely based on captured Nazi documents, constitutes the United States’ explanation of its refusal to participate in the proposed hemisphere defence treaty, which would include the Argentine.
