HOSPITAL SMOKE-STACK
Sir,—The residents of Hagley avenue assuredly will “not accept with equanimity” tne proposed erection of workshops, boiler-house, and a 140 foot smoke-stack on the Manse site; nor will any true citizen view with equanimity the idea of the Hospital Board's “monument” defiling the western entrance to the city. What must members of St. Andrew’s Church think of this diversion from the original purchase for a maternity hospital, and where would the •chimney nave been erected if this site had been unobtainable? That this “monument” will be an object of ridicule is certain, until wiser heads decide upon its removal. In spite of the advocacy of electricity by one of the board’s members, and by Cr. L. G. Amos, it will a miracle if the hide-bound opinions of the Hospital Boa.d can be diverted from their original decision to use coal. —Yours, etc J. WYN IRWIN. April 18. 1945
