THE NGAI TAHU CLAIM
Sir,—As the Ngai Tahu claim stands to-day, no one knows how the' Government proposes to spend the £IO,OOO annually. I have, heard the first year’s payment is available now. We do not want our money spent on State houses or communal fprms. Neither do we want it spent on carving, weaving, or polishing paua shells for sale. Such things are hobbies. . We want to get out of the slums we live In,, and £150.000 should be made available immediately for that purpose.—Yours, etc ’ AKE-AKE-AKE. April 13. 1945.
