CITY MILK SUPPLY
gj r —For the five years ending December 31, 1942, 6547 samples of Christchurch city milk were tested by the Health Department; 693 samples, or 10.5 per cent., did not comply with the low standard set by the Sale of Foods and Drugs Act, This proves that since the beginning of 1938 the Christchurch milk supply has been bad. Since 1942 the City Council has employed a milk inspector, who, I understand, has increased the number of samples taken. No report of the result of his work has been presented to the City Council or to the public. One can only assume that the milk supply has not improved and perhaps deteriorated. The citizens of Christchurch are entitled to know the quality of the milk supply, especially as they are compelled to take milk from one particular milk vendor, regardless of whether it is good or bad.—Yours, etc., G. W. DELL. May 30, 1944.
