RAILWAY GOODS SHEDS

Sir, —I understand that the new shed at Waltham is to be occupied early next month, the building to be known as E shed. Even at the present time confusion is being made between B and D sheds, so that with the addition of another shed letter, E, with a very similar sound to the first two mentioned, more trouble will be caused to persons dealing with cargo. I think that all sheds should be numbered (1 believe this is the practice in the North Island), and would suggest to Mr F. Clarke (the newly-appointed District Traffic Manager) that he act on my suggestion and show the South Island people that Christchurch has at least some initiative.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED. October 26, 1943. [“Lettering of goods sheds is the general method adopted at main centres, and no difficulty is experienced in identifying any particular shed." was the comment of the Railways District Traffic Manager, to whom this letter was submitted.]
