SOCIAL SECURITY ?
Sir,—l would be much obliged if you could please explain through your paper how it is that 7s fid is the usual refund for a 10s fid doctor’s fee, yet having to visit a specialist for one consultation costing £3 3s I have received a voucher for only 15s refund.—Yours, etc., SOCIAL-IN-SECURITY. November 1. 1943. [“Seven shillings and sixpence is the amount authorised by the act as the refund or payment to the doctor for ordinary general medical services,” said an officer of the Department of Health, to whom this letter was referred. “No special rate is payable for special medical services, but a patient consulting a specialist is entitled to a refund of 7s fid, plus mileage, If this is involved.” It would appear, he added, that in this case the £3 3s was the fee for two consultations, in which case the 15s would be the correct amount to be refunded.]
