THE POST-WAR ORDER

Sir, —Dr. I, L. G. Sutherland says it is common sense for New Zealanders to abandon the idea of governing themselves. He would have us surrender our sovereignty, that is our freedom, to some “international authority” which would control our lives. All this to give us security! We should not forget thai Hitler said to the German people: “Surrender your freedom and I will give you security.” Dr. Sutherland must know that, in the political and economic sense, freedom and security are complementary—one is impossible without the other. His roposals are completely opposed to the modern concept of democracy. The objective he seeks is exactly what international financiers, men without a flag and wouldbe world dictators, have been striving for for many years.—Yours, etc., ECONOMIC DEMOCRACY. November 1. 1943.
