OPERATIONS IN MIDDLE EAST

(Rec. 9.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 11. The White House has announced the resignation of the Director of Civilian Defence (Mr James Landis) and his appointment as American Director of Economic Operations in the Middle East, The “New York Times” says Mr Landis will be the opposite number of the British Minister of State (Mr R. G. Casey) and will hold the rank of Minister. He will in effect bi the Economic Minister of all the American legations in the Middle East and the principal American civilian representative on the Middle East Supply Centre.
