PETROL ALLOCATIONS
Sir,— Recently a former member of the 2nd N,£.E,F, who saw service in Greece, Crete, and Libya and was invalided home, applied for his allocation to enable him to visit his rglalions and friends in a rural district. He was granted the totally inadequate amount of three gallons; with the result that his trip had to be cancelled. I would like to ask if this kind of treatment is a sample of what cur brave lads cap expect from the Government who promised so much when they returned home? Or is this just the Fuel Controller’s own valuation of "services rendered” by our men of the 2nd N.Z.E.F.? Finally, 1 would like to ask "who controls the Fuel Controller"?— Yours, etc., EX-DIGGER.
April 6, 1643. [The Oil Fuel Controller, Christchurch, commenting on this letter, said that arrangements regarding the issue of petrol licences had been that they were granted only when there was no alternative means of transport. "Since then," he added, “new instructions have been received, and if the correspondent makes a further application his case will be considered on its merits.”]
