A statement in a North Island newspaper that American soldiers were not required to salute officers outside the'ir camps was denied by an officer at Southern Military District Headquarters yesterday. He read an extract from United States Army instructions issued at Washington this year which stated: “All persons on military service will salute at all times when they meet and recognise persons entitled to a salute.”
