ESTIMATED WHEAT AREA
Cards were recently posted to gramgrowers and potato-growers '■ out New Zealand for the purpose ascertaining the areas which been planted in wheat, oats, bapsy. and potatoes " this season. Estimates tfx have now been made based m t’-JV' ■ replies received. j .. It is estimated that 275,000 acres will be planted in wheat in the South Island, as against 260,603 last year. In oats the acreage will be 223,000, in barley 32,500. and in potatoes 15.500. , Throughout the Dominion it is believed that 288.000 acres will be sown ir wheat, 234.000 acres in oats. 36.400 in barley, and 21,500 in potatoes. -0“ 1941 the respective figures were 360,603. 282,408, 44,431, and 15,201 acres.
