CLOTHES FOR FARM WORKERS
ISSUE OF MORE COUPONS SOUGHT
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. An appeal that the farming community should be given more clothing coupons, for working clothes, was made in the House of Representatives to-day by Mr A. S. Sutherland (Opposition, Hauraki) in an urgent question to the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan).
In reply, the Minister said that the claims of the farming community, as well as those of other industries, for inclusion in the industrial clothing schedule relating to the additional issue of coupons would be given full consideration. Coupon values for clothing suitable for heavy duty had been fixed at a low level when the schedule was drawn up. Every concession made to special industries and classes meant a reduction at some future date in the clothing ration of the whole community, and for that reason it was necessary to consider the claims very carefully before concessions were made.
