REGRADING OF SOLDIERS

REQUEST FOR TRAVELLING MEDICAL BOARDS The Christchurch executive of the Returned Services’ Association rejected at its meeting on Monday evening a motion moved by the chairman (Mr C Miln), which sought the support of the Dominion executive to bring before the Government the necessity of appointing travelling medical boards to review the grading of single men graded as 2 and 3 before further classes of married men were sent overseas. The motion was seconded by Mr D. W. Russell, who said ho had been informed that there were men in grades 2 and 3 who might, on re-examination, be put in a higher category. “I am absolutely against this." said Dr. F. L. Scott “Why cannot the men be brought to the towns as at present?” It was incorrect to say that changes were not made in grading. Dr. Scott added, the grading of some men had been raised, in other cases it had been reduced. “In any case, where are you going to get the" doctors for travelling boards?" he inquired. “They arc working hard enough as it is. By all means keen the system centralised.” Mr J. S. Chisholm: I don’t think we should interfere. After all, we arc laymen, and this is a medical matter. If wo pass such a resolution we might find ourselves in de r p water.” The motion was defeated.
