SALE OF ELECTRIC POWER

$ INCREASE IN DOMESTIC REVENUE Half-yearly returns for the Municipal Electricity Department submitted to the City Council on Monday evening showed an increase of 2 per cent, in units sold and an increase of 1 per cent, in revenue compared with the same period of last year. The cost of power was practically the same. Commenting on the marked slowing down in electrical development, the general manager (Mr E. Hitchcock) said: “The inability to expand is a merciful accompaniment to the inability to provide for expansion.” Mr Hitchcock said domestic sales showed an increase of 6.7 per cent, in units sold and an increase of 4.2 per cent, in revenue, giving further evidence of where the council's main business and prospects lay in its electrical activities. The figures showed that commercial supply was the chief sufferer from lighting restrictions, with decreases of 3.6 per cent, in units sold and 4.1 per cent, in revenue.
