FIVE BUILDINGS DESTROYED

FIRE AT CLINTON DAMAGE PUT AT THOUSANDS OF POUNDS ' (P.A.) GORE, November 25. One of the most disastrous fires in S the history of Clinton destroyed a t large part of the business area of the | township early this morning. Five ■ I buildings, comprising one of the main business' portions, were razed. The damage is estimated at thousands of pounds. The buildings destroyed were an unoccupied shop owned by Mr D. A. Mc{jachlan, the store and offices of the National Mortgage and Agency Company. the stores and offices of Dalgety and Company, a confectionery shop occupied by Mrs W. R. Webb, and a large general store occupied by Mr John Dickinson. The last-named building was formerly the Grand Hotel, and was converted into a general store some years ago. No fire-fighting appliances were available, and attempts to check the 3aniee proved fruitless.
