FLEW BURNING PLANE HOME ALONE

COMMANDER OF HALIFAX BOMBER LONDON, Nov. 20. The story is now told of how the commander of a large Halifax bomber brought his aircraft safely home by himself. He was Flight Lieutenant B. B. Robins, D.5.0., D.F.C., and he was returning from the raid on Turin. Before crossing the Alps a fire broke out in the aircraft and quickly spread to the wing. He ordered his crew to bail out. They did so, and, just as he was making ready to bail out himself, he noticed that the fire was starting to subside. He carried on and landed the machine safely at an aerodrome on the English coast.
