FALSE SALES TAX RETURNS

FINES TOTALLING £3OO IMPOSED

(P.A.) ■„ AUCKLAND, Sept. 25. Fines totalling £3OO were imposed when Harold Charles Nason, a cabinetmaker, of Devonport, pleaded guilty before Mr F. H. Levien, S.M., to three charges of having made false sales tax returns with intent to defraud the revenue. The charges were brought by the Collector of Customs. Defendant’s counsel said he had not benefited himself in any way by making the, false returns and he had sold his goods more cheaply to purchasers.
