“DIGGERS’ REVUE”
VARIED PROGRAMME PRESENTED Comedy sketches, clever ballet dancing, and popular songs were included in the programme of bright entertainment offered in the “Diggers’ Revue,” which was presented again to a good house t the Civic Theatre last evening, It will be staged again at 8 o’clock to-night, and there will also be a matinee at 2.15 p.m. A feature of today’s presentations will be the playing of Maurice Clare, leading English violinist, accompanies by the wellknown Christchurch pianist, Noel Newson.
The comedy sketches last evening had as their mainstay, Bob Franklin. Other capable humorists were G. Ferris, Bill Moore, and “Spud” Murphy. Musical items also figured prominently in the programme. R. Boyce, who is well known in Australia and Auckland, was heard at the organ, and there were the piano offerings of Alan Wellbrock, violin numbers by Peter McLauchlan, Ossie Greenwood’s piano-accordion solos, and a popular quartet comprising Jack Denley, Walter Leslie, E. Pelvin. ant Ossie Greenwood. The organiser of the revue, Claude O’Hagan, was applauded for his bass songs, and other popular singers were R. D. Bell and J. H. Swann. The conjuring of Walter Leslie and C. H. Lewis mystified the audience, and other items in the varied programme were J. M. Sinclair’s ventriloquism, Ken Wright’s tap dancing, the acrobatic dancing of Paula Le Breton, and Jack Fitzgerald’s recitation. A.. Pywell’s organ preliminaries, the choruses, and the work of the orchestra contributed to the success of the evening.
