SICKNESS LESS PREVALENT
AUXILIARY HOSPITALS CLOSED A big decline in the number of, C i Se ? of infectious diseases in the last lew weeks has enabled the North Canterbury Hospital Board to close down first the auxiliary hospital at Addington and. from to-day, the auxiliary hospital at Waltham. This was announced yesterday by the secretary to the board. Mr Alex. Prentice. . ' The improvement in the: sickness position had been particularly* able in the military camps, said Mr Prentice. The Waltham Hospital for infectious diseases was opened three months ago when existing hospital accommodation was over-taxed. The building was formerly used as an orphanage. Lately the number of patients at the Burwood Hospital and at Waltham had dropped so considerably that it had become possible to arrange for the remaining patients at Waltham to be transferred to Burwood. This would be done to-day. Mr Prentice said that at the worst period of the measles and influenza epidemics the Burwood, Addington, and Waltham Hospital, accommodating 300, 120, and 40 cases respectively, were all full. Now there were only about 120 cases at Burwood, none at Addingtom and only a handful afr Waltham. \t\\-
