MAGISTRATE’S COURT

* FRIDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) REMANDED

Stella Nairn Neylon, a domestic, aged 19, pleaded not guilty to the theft on or about March 7 of 5s and some lipstick, of a total value of 7s 3d, the property of Mary Alfreda Murray. She was remanded to March 19. CHARGE OF DESERTION

Charles Dillon, a steward, aged 35, appearing for sentence on a charge of desertion from a ship at Lyttelton, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within 12 months, pay costs, and report to the police as directed. Senior-Sergeant J. Bickerdike said efforts would be made to find a ship for Dillon as soon as possible.

Offenders against the traffic regulations were dealt with as follows: Cycling without a light: Joseph Dalzell, 10s; Eric Oscar Gaze, 10s; Albert Leslie Halliday, costs only; James Godfrey McConchie, 10s; Norman Weir, costs only. Crossing railway when line not clear: Ronald Anthony Bainbridge, 20s; Jane Napier Stewart. 10s (no warrant of fitness, ss). Failing to give way: Alice Louisa Crosby, costs only; Ronald Nichols costs only; Robert Dott Pullar, 20s; Douglas Lynn, 20s. No 1 warrant of fitness: Ernest Charles John Storer, costs only.
