LAKE WAITAKI AS SANCTUARY
NO ACTION TO BE TAKEN In reply to a proposal, sponsored by Mr E. C. Studholme, of Waimate, to have Lake Waitaki a sanctuary under the Animals and *Prolection of Game Act, the Department of Internal Affairs has announced that no action will be taken in the meantime.
At-the monthly meeting of the North Otago Acclimatisation Society last evening, the secretary (Mr A. C. Piper) said that, following the representations of the society. ■in collaboration with the Waimate Acclimatisation Society, which had been placed before the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry), no action would be taken in the meantime. Advice to that effect had been received from the department. i Reporting on his recent fishing trip to the Ahuriri river, Dr. E. E. Butler, of Oamaru, stated that anglers _ were obtaining good catches of rainbow trout, which, generally speaking, were in good condition. The fish taken, he said, appeared to average about 51b. They seemed to be more plentiful than last season.
