When he fell 30 feet from a ladder at his home this afternoon, George Cooling, aged 74 years, a farmer of Cricklewood, suffered a fracture of the spine and pelvis. He was admitted to the Timaru Public Hospital early this evening, and his condition is reported to be serious. Thomas Dooley, aged 44 years, living at 2 Grey road. Timaru, slipped and fell while carrying a bag of pollard at the flour mill of Evans and Company, Timaru, this afternoon, and suffered a crush-fracture of the spine. He was admitted to the Timaru Public Hospital early this evening, and his condition to-night is stated to be not serious. MINER KILLED AT WESTPORT PICK PIERCES CHEST IN FALL OF COAL (P.A.) WESTPORT, January 12. Jack Stephens, a married man, aged 42 years, was killed in the Westport Coal Company’s mine at Denniston this morning by a fall of coal. He was removing a prop when the fall occurred, the handle of his pick piercing his chest. He leaves a wife and a daughter. CHILD FALLS FROM SLIDE Valerie McGeorge, aged 12, 690 Gloucester street, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital at 8.20 p.m. yesterday with a. fractured left ankle. The injury was received when she fell from a slide at Avonside Park. FALL FROM MOTOR-CYCLE A compound fracture of the right arm and a cut over his right eye were suffered by Frank William Lamond, Burnham Camp, yesterday. He was admitted at 11.30 a.m. to the Christchurch Hospital, where his condition last night was reported to be satisfactory. He is a married man, aged 32, and in civil life he lives at Invercargill. FRACTURED ANKLE When he slipped while walking, Lewis Harry, a Post and Telegraph linesman, of Cheviot, broke his left ankle yesterday. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital at 3.30 p.m.
