GERMAN AIR ACE EXECUTED
♦ FATE OF MAJOR-GENERAL UDET LONDON, January 11. Major-General Ernst Udet, the famous German air ace, was executed, states the correspondent of the British United Press on the German frontier. Major-General Udet was not a supporter of the Nazis, and he owed his position as Chief of Air Materials to his friendship with Goering. Udet, last summer, signed orders for the delivery of metal for the construction of aircraft. The metal was later discovered to be faulty, leading to a serious number of Luftwaffe crashes. An investigation held Udet responsible, after which he was confined to Goering’s estate. It was announced later that his death was the result of an accident. Udet was the most famous and, with Goering, one of the few surviving German air aces of the last war. He flew continuously from • 1914 to 1918, and had 62 Allied machines to his credit.
