BROADCASTING OF RACING
Sir, —Congratulations to “Sufferer”! At last a worm has turned and we other wriggling things have found a leader. 'The broadcasting of racing has long been an earsore. Is the method adopted a hangover from the infant days of broadcasting when static and interruptions were frequent, and important news, like racing, had to be repeated lest any detail might be lost? Or is it that racing enthusiasts are so lethargic that they can never take in , a result at the first hearing and have forgotten it within half an hour? I have often thought I would like to make a statistical record of the number of times we are told that: “The first race at Rungagigi was won by Dead Beat, with Secundus, second, and No Hope, third—Dead Beat, Secundus, No Hope.” Perhaps our new-found leader, “Sufferer,” would undertake this piece of research and publish his results. It could be looked on in the nature of an intelligence test for our racing fans—or our broadcasting chiefs. —Yours, etc., LISTENING SPORT. November 24, 1941.
