NOT WANTED ?
Sir, —Everywhere striking you in the eye is “Your Country Needs You. Enlist To-day,” "Fight for Freedom,” “V for Victory,” etc. This morning I offered my services to the Army in any of its companies, tout was plainly told I was not wanted, the reason given being that I must be balloted for. Do we have to sit down and wait, while the country is at war, and an appeal board is sitting every day trying to make people with religious views fight for something they consider wrong? Just what interpretation do they put on freedom? "We want men.” Will they leave that sign up for a slogan? I arri physically fit and full of going, but New Zealand has a surplus of soldiers and sailors, as I am not eligible for that department either. Just when is this country going to do something without red taper When my time comes—when the official cogs start revolving and the machinery starts in action, my marble will be lifted out of the barrel by some Intelligent youth. Will this be too late. Start to-day; let every man, according to his views, fight for freedom.— Yours, etc., DISGUSTED. November 20, 1941. [lt was stated by the Army authorities that the policy of the Government was that voluntary recruiting came to an end in June, 1940. It was open for married men to ' join the Territorial Forces.]
