STREET ROBBERY IN AUCKLAND
SUSPECT DETAINED
ATTEMPT TO CASH CHEQUE
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, November 8. A suspect was placed in custody this afternoon, charged with the theft on October 28, in Victoria street, of a handbag containing more than £6OO, the property of the Waitemata, Trading Company. The bag was snatched from a message boy on the.way to the bank. ' While engaged on another inquiry at Papakura this morning, Detectives Gordon and Mahood were informed that a man had attempted to cash a cheque. They watched him leave .a shop and enter a rental motor-car, in which there were another man, two women, and three young children. This motor-car was followed and intercepted and the occupants questioned. All accompanied the detectives to the police station, and one man was detained. He was charged with robbing Colin Jackson of a .-bag containing £305, and 12 cheques Of a total value of £648 14s. The suspect will appear in the Police Court on Monday morning. All the cheques have been recovered. . '
