ELLESMERE COUNTY COUNCIL
APRECIATION OF CHAIRMAN’S SERVICES Appreciation of the services to the county over a long period, including many years as chairman, by Mr John Heslop, was expressed by members at the monthly meeting of the Ellesmere County Council. Regret was also expressed that ill-health prevented Mr Heslop from seeking re-election. A letter received from the Public Works Department indicated that there was no prospect of the Highways Board granting a subsidy for the proposed sealing of part of the LeestonDunsandel, road. Further consideration was deferred by the council until after the elections. For several years the council has been endeavouring to get the Public Works Department to make a drainage survey of parts of Leeston and Irwell ridings. Further requests were made after last month’s meeting of the council. and a letter has since been received from the Minister stating that because of shortage of staff it was not possible to undertake the survey in the meantime. The chairman commented that the decision was disappointing, but could not be helped under present circumstances.
