RATIONING OF PETROL
* CUT IN ALLOWANCES IN AUSTRALIA (Received May 8, 1.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, May 7. Private motoring will be reduced to 40 miles a week under a new petrol ration scale, details of which were announced to-day by Senator P. A. McBride, Minister for Supply, The private monthly allowances from June 1 will be: Five gallons for 8 h.p. cars, and a maximum of 11 gallons for cars over 30 h.p. This ration is half the amount allowed when rationing was introduced in October. Motorists at present obtaining an extra ration under "business and private” fuel licences will have their licences cut 1 by 20 per cent., and will be required to answer a questionnaire stating how much is used respectively for business and pleasure.
