PLUNKET SOCIETY

INCREASED SUBSIDY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 7. The Minister for Health (the Hon. A, H.vNordmeyer) announced to-day that that Government has decided to increase the subsidy to the Plunket Society, The subsidy of £125 in respect pf each Plunket nurse Ms been increased by's per cent., antedated to October 1. ■ It has also been decided to increase as from April ,1. the contribution toward the car expenses of Plunket nurses to £2O a year, instead of £lO, and a grant of £2O is also to be made to each nurse who uses her own car on the society’s work.

LYTTELTON BRANCH Mrs B. H. Gilmour presided at the monthly meeting of the Lyttelton branch of the Plunket Society. It was announced that the opening of the pre-school clinic had been a great success, and parents were reminded that a medical officer would make periodical visits to examine the children. Arrangements were completed for the children’s annual party. Nurse Mcßae’s report for the month was as follows:—-Lyttelton: Visits to rooms, adults 102, babies 80, preschool children 17, Home visits: New cases 16, old cases 12. Heathcote; Visits to rooms, adults 21, babies 18, and five pre-school children. Home Visits: Two new cases. Diamond Harbour; Visits to rooms, five adults, four babies, and two pre-school children.

WEEDONS RED CROSS Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Weedons sub-centre of the Rea Cross Society were:—President, Mrs D, McVinnie; secretary, Mrs G. Chambers; treasurer. Miss A. Gilmour. Members of the Junior Red Cross were welcomed, and Lady Wlgram fave a talk on the work of the society, owing was distributed to members.

FAREWELL SOCIAL Many residents of the Greendale district gathered in the- Orange Hall, Greendale, to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs G. E. Dean and family, who are leaving the district to take up farming in the Courtenay district. Mr J. W. Warren, bn behalf of residents, presented a dinner set and travelling rug to Mr and Mrs Deans. Gifts were also presented to Miss M. Dean and Mr Allan Dean. Mr Warren referred to the help given by Mr Dean to many organisations in the district, particularly the Domain Board and School Committee, . , , . The evening’s programme included musichl items given by Miss M. Clinton, Mr Arthur Clinton. Miss M. Adams, the Rev. N. Garlick, and Mr R. Felton. Competitions were won by Miss Clinton and Mr Mathias. Music for dancing was played by Misses M. Clinton, L. Adams, A. Locker, Messrs R. Felton, D. Clinton, and A. Clinton. __
