Mr and Mrs Leslie Lefeaux (Wellington), who, in the course of a tour of the South Island, have been spending a week at Franz Josef glacier, left yesterday for Nelson. Mrs W. Holt (England), who has been staying with Mrs George Aitken, Fendalton, is now the guest of Mrs Douglas Deans, “Rowallan," Darfleld. Captain Robin Harper (Burnham) and Mrs Harper left yesterday to pay a short visit to Geraldine.
Mrs T. C. Faville (Kirribilli, Sydney) has arrived in New Zealand by aeroplane and will come to Christchurch to-morrow morning to stay with her daughter. Mrs A. M. Satterthwaite, Fendalton.
Mr and Mrs J. A. Mullins (“The Cliffs,” Timaru), have returned home after a holiday spent at the Franz Josef glacier, Mrs Charles Waddy (The Waterfalls, Seddon). who has been visiting Christchurch and South Canterbury, has returned to Marlborough. Dr. and Mrs F. A. Bett, Miss I. Andrew and Miss C. A. Evans (Nelson), who nave been spending a few days in Christchurch after a holiday visit to Franz Josef glacier, will return to Nelson to-day. Mrs Maxwell Deans (“Kilmarnock,” North Canterbury) has returned home after a short visit to Christchurch. Miss June Baird, whose marriage will take place at Easter, was the guest of honour at an enjoyable bridge party given by Miss Valerie de Villiers, who will be one of the bridesmaids. Each guest brought a gift for Miss Baird’s future home. Visitors to Christchurch for the Mc-Kinnon-de Berry wedidng, which will take place on Saturday, will include Dr. A. Mrs J. W. Sandham will arrive from Wellington on Thursday for the marriage of her niece, Miss Vivienne de Berry, to Mr I. W. McKinnon. Mrs G. A. McKeown, Ballarat, Victoria, with her eldest daughter, Betty, will arrive to-day to visit her mother, Mrs W. Milne Shand (Riccarton). Later she will visit her husband's parents, Mr and Mrs McKeown, Hadlow Park, South Canterbury. An interesting talk oh “Women’s Work in War-Time London” was given by Mrs A. J. Harrop (London) to members of the literary circle of the Canterbury Women’s Club at a meeting held in the club rooms last night. Miss G. M. Glanville, director of the circle, thanked Mrs Harrop for the pleasure she had given. “Italy and Spain” was the subject of Mrs L. G. Pocock’s talk to members of the Y.W.C.A. Business and Professional Women’s Club at the fortnightly meeting, held last night. Miss Lucy Bishop presided, and Miss Daphne Chapman thanked the speaker. Miss Joy Henderson and Miss M. Duncan were nominated as delegates to attend the Y.W.C.A. conference, to be held in Auckland in May.
Miss Peggy Brand was the guest of honour at a “kitchen” gift party, given by Mr and Mrs C. Brand at their home at Wakanui. The guests were entertained with cards and competitions.
News has been received in Christchurch that Miss P. M. P. Clark, formerly headmistress of the Christchurch Girls’ High School, who left New Zealand on February 26. arrived in England last Sunday, April 6. Miss Clark intends entering the Novitiate of the Community of St. Mary the Virgin, Wantage, one of the largest communities in the Church of England, with branch houses in England, India, and South Africa.

An address on “The Aims and Advantages of the Mothers’ Union” was given by Mrs M. C. Hendrie, of Bishop Julius Hostel, at the monthly meeting of the Kaiapoi branch of the Mothers’ Union. Mrs T. M. Curnow presided at the meeting, which was preceded by a devotional service in the church. Ladies!
