AWARDS ISSUED Awards for bravery were granted to the following persons at a meeting of the Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand yesterday afternoon; — Certificates —Eleanor Jane Wilber - foss, aged 16, of Wanganui, who, .on February 5 rescued a young girl from ■drowning in a heavy surf at Castlecliff Beach, Wanganui. Jack Dixon Pepper, aged 29, of Hamilton, who, on September rescued a man from drowning in a heavy current in the centre of the Waikato river. Leslie Waters Seagar. aged 37. of Wellington, who on October 4 dived into Wellington harbour between a ship and the wharf to rescue a man who had had a heart seizure and fallen into the water. Bronze Medal—Charles Lewis Olsen, aged 42, of Auckland, who- rescued a man from drowning in Waitemata harbour on August 23. He went out in a boat in very rough water, bent over to seize the man’s coat, and noticing the man’s teeth were in his throat, drew them out first, expecting every minute that his boat would swamp, as water was coming over. Letter of Commendation —Thomas McDonald Cushen, aged 17, of Invercargill, who on ‘March 24 dived into a swift flowing river, and. swimming about six yards, rescued a man from drowning. . 1
