ST. JOHN AMBULANCE The motor-ambulancc owned by the Lyttelton Sub-Centre of St. John A. m " bulance has been out of commission for the last two weeks for overhaul and painting, the first for five years. It is expected that the vehicle will be in use again to-morrow. The Christchurch Centre has been supplying ambulances to Lyttelton when required while the Lyttelton ambulance was out of commission. On Monday night Major J. W. Crampton, assistant-commissioner in charge, and Mr J. Dickson, district officer, inspected the Lyttelton Railway Divisions, Nos. 1 and 2, also the boy cadets. Major Crampton complimented the divisions on their turnout, also on the state of their finances, No. 1 Division especially having an extremely good balance. Demonstrations of first-aid work were given and were praised by the inspecting officers. Major Crampton also addressed the men on the Home Guard movement, explaining that members of the Ambulance Brigade w'ere not permitted to enlist in -the Home Guard individually, the brigade having offered its services as a unit. The Lyttelton girl cadets held their annual break-up social in the ambulance rooms on Wednesday night, when friends w'ere entertained. Games and dancing were held. A badge for the most efficient cadet, given by Miss M. Nystram, superintendent of the Lyttelton Nursing Division, was awarded to Helen Boyd, and a prize for the next best cadet, also given by Miss Nystram, was awarded to. Gwenda Miller. On behalf of the cadets, Miss Nystram presented Mrs F. Boyd, superintendent of the cadets, with a crystal vase.
