HOME ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION

ELECTION OF OFFICERS The Home Economics Association held its annual meeting last night, the newly-elected president (Miss S. McKee) presiding over a good attendance. Officers were elected as follows: — President, Miss S. McKee; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames J. Richards, D. Gardner Miller, E. C. Colville, Misses M. A. Blackmore, L. Cilmour, C. E. Wardle; committee, Mesdames W. Cowan, G. Garton, L. Honings, J. S. Kelly, J. Lorimer, L. M. Rogers, E. Stevens, Misses E. Aiken, E. Devin, E. McGregor, and M. Watson; secretary, Mrs R. Borland. Mrs A. E. Foote, Mrs Tisch, and Miss N. Stone were also appointed to the committee to fill some recently caused vacancies. ENGAGEMENT NOTICE The engagement is announced of George, youngest son of Mr and Mrs A. Dykes (Christchurch), to Colleen, second daughter of Mr J. D. Woods and- the late Mrs Woods, Heathcote. FOOD VALUE LEAGUE NEW BRANCH FORMED Last evening the Home Economics Association sponsored a well-attended meeting, at which the aims and objects of the Women’s Food Value League were explained. Mr C. E. St. John gave an interesting talk on .the dietetic aspects of dental caries and emphasised the harmful effects on teeth of sugar and sloppy Starch foods. Miss A. E. Lorimer, M.Sc. who is the chairwoman of the Wellington committee of the Women’s Food Value League, explained the origin of the league, which, she said, existed to give women authoritative information on food, to collect and disseminate information available about foodstuffs, to apply the knowledge obtained from research to the ordinary market problems of the country, and to stimulate interest in the production, marketing, and preparation of food. It was decided to form a branch of the league in Christchurch, and a committee was set up to further the aims of the league.
