TRAFFIC OFFENCES
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. i Sir, —I have just returned from a trip abroad, and it is. very pleasing to note that in most other countries persons in cars do give way to traffic on their right or, as in such countries as Canada and the United States of America, to traffic on their left. But in New Zealand. Christchurch especially, cars rush out from side streets on the left without even the slightest warding even although it is a traffic offence. The most dangerous road to drive along in Christchurch seems to be Papanui road, and the only way to avoid being crashed into is to sound the horn all aiding the road and to drive in the middle. In England, and the United States at every street leading on to. a main road is the sign—- “ Stop! Major Road Ahead;” and for passing this sign without stopping a fine of -about £lO is imposed. Hoping car drivers will make the roads safer by giving way to the right.—Yours, etc., A NGN-DANGEROUS DRIVER. - February 9, 1940. t
