FACTS OF BANKING RETURNS

TO TOE BDlTbat OF THE PRESS. Sr,— Living, as we are, in an. age of trade lies, political propaganda, pioU? platitudes, and complete negation of the injunction to “render unto Caesar the things that dre Caesar’s,” perhaps I may be allowed a little space to place the following additional information before your many readers. In 1939 our total bank deposits increased by £9.236,584, and current accounts by £6,168,038, while deposits exceeded advances by £0,172,365 in 1938, to £22,068,966 in 1939. When we remember that we have £73,206,356 in our New Zealand banks, one will have to be a chrohic super cynic and incurable peasmist to discover any evidence of financial deterioration under the regime of Labour’s humanitarian policy of justice and equity and equal opportunity to all to work out our own destiny,

the highest aim of Man. Outward symbols of individual prosperity are daily Self-evident to the most casual observer— contenter, happy patrons of theatres, sports meetings, crowded stores, and country saleyards lined with costly modern motors tell their own story,/ but the hidden secrets of bank, pocket and cheqtte books are rarely available for public inspection. Hence my letters on bank returns Yours, etc,, LET US REMEMBER, Hornby, February 9, 1940.
