DOMINION BOWLS TOURNEY

RINK& SECTION PLAY SIX UNDEFEATED TEAMS . FIFTH AND SIXTH ROUNDS (P&Z3S 4SBOCIATIOS TBLEGRA3I.J WELLINGTON. January 15, There were six undefeated teams at the conclusion of to-day’s section play in the rinks championship of the New Zealand Centennial bowling tournament. They are Silbery' (Petone), Dickinson (Avon, Stratford), Hazlewood (Lyall Bay), Badwin (Hutt). Ramsay (Shirley), and Munn (Canterbury). The greens were holding slightly after last night's rain, but under the circumstances ran well, and there was a good standard of play, with many Munn, wno was associated with Haworth in his two rink triumphs of 1936 and 193 (. has a nicely-balanced rink which deserved its place among the six undefeated teams. Dickinson’s rink is teaming well, and it must be remembered that Dickinson went well in the 1937 tournament Silbery was in the semi-finals of the 1937 rinks. Hazelwood skips a good, solid rink, and Hadwin and Ramsay have quite good Wellington and Canterbury performances respectively to their (Sydenham) and Bremner (West End, Auckland), who. were both undefeated at the end of Saturday’s play, each suffered one loss to-day. Spearman, however, is still the leader in his section, but in Section K Ramsay has six wins against Bremner’s five. Bremner weni down to Ramsay in the sixth round, 19-22 Spearman, a former Dominion singles champion, was beaten in the fifth round by Livingstone (Onehunga), also a previous singles title holder, by 23-21. In a number of sections play is left in a very interesting position—in several of them the highest number of wins is four, with a number of ties There was again some high scoring today, Lawrie (Island Bay) making 43 against his opponent’s 17. The vagaries of the game were seen in the contest between Wright (St. Heliers) and Belcher (Napier), when Belcher secured seven counters on the third end. However, on the next. 12 ends Belcher scored only three, all singles, and eventually went down to Wright, 21-27. In the fourth round McKelvie (Wellington) had the maximum of eight scored against him by O’Connor, of Newtown.
