SECOND ECHELON QUOTA 230 ENLISTMENTS NEEDED FILLING OF DRAFTS DELAYED At least 230, enlistments are needed in Canterbury to fill the district’s quota of 568 for the 2nd Echelon of the Special Force. By 5 p.m. yesterday, the additional recruits in Christchurch for the day were 18. The statistical position ox recruiting in the Christchurch area is;— Posted to camps, 386; available for posting, 13- estimated number of men available from 105 recruits warned for medical examination, 55. That gives a total of 454, leaving 114 to be obtained to fill the quota, which it was originally hoped, would be filled by January 12. „ A ' The registrations ■ in Canterbury totalled 278 last week. Eight were officers, 195 were single men, 16 married men without children, 26 married men with one child, and 33 married men with two children. ‘Hiey made a total registration of 3139 since the outbreak of war. Of that number. 1969 have been passefi as fit, 632 as temporarily unfit, and 202 as permanently unfit. The medical classifications made last week were:—Fit, 184; temporarily unfit, 33; permanently unfit, 46. Additional medical boards will be held this week.
